There is just something that I really really like about this photo. Perhaps it’s the fact that there are two world-class athletes, who routinely compete against each other, just sitting near each other, completely lost in their own worlds. Or perhaps it’s because they are simply focused on watching the sport that both of them devoted their entire lives to. There’s just something really peaceful and serene that I like about this photo. It’s nice to just take a break from all the drama and pressure and just enjoy gymnastics for what it is: a sport.

The amount of different skills Peng Peng Lee has competed on beam over the course of her career will never cease to amaze me. Absolutely ridiculous.
The 2008 Rusiian Olympic training squad. From left to right, the names in bold made the team:
Ksenia Semyonova, Kristina Goryunova, Ksenia Afanasyeva, Yulia Lozhechko, Yekaterina Kramaranko, Lyudmilla Grebenkova (Ezhova), Kristina Pravdina, Anna Pavlova, Daria Yelizarova, Svetlana Klyukina
(I might have mixed up Lozhechko and Klyukina, soory.)
I remember it was one day where we took the kids up to the mountains for an excursion, and there was a small waterfall. So I joked around with them, I said, hey, if you bathe in this water your toes will be extra straight and your legs too, and if you wash your hair with it you’ll get much smarter. All the other kids carried on playing, but she came up to me and asked, really? Are you sure? Is it true? I said of course, and then she rushed to the water and started washing her feet with it, and after that she washed her hair too. And at that moment I thought — this girl is something special. She has the heart for this. (+)
